Overview

Digital Media Art(DMA) offers a four-year undergraduate curriculum, awarding the Bachelor of Arts degree upon graduation. Originating from the Broadcasting & Television Directing and Advertising established in 1999, it is among China's earliest institutions to cultivate high-level talents in digital media. In 2023, the major ranked first nationwide in the Shanghai Ranking's Chinese university rankings for majors. It was authorized to confer a master's degree in Radio and Television Arts in 2003. In 2007, the major received approval from the Ministry of Education as one of the first characteristic majors (Animation Direction) and became a provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Digital Media Technology. In 2011, it acquired master's degree authorization in Design as a first-level discipline. The undergraduate major in Digital Media Art was officially launched in 2015. In 2016, it became the first institution in Northeast China to receive approval for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Key Laboratory of Interactive Media Design and Equipment Service Innovation. In 2018, the major led the establishment of the Heilongjiang Provincial Virtual Reality Technology Engineering Research Center. In 2022, it was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Site and established the Interactive Media Innovation & Research Center under the China Higher Education Film & Television Society (a national first-level academic society). In 2024, it was approved to organize the Heilongjiang regional competition of the National College Students' Digital Media Technology Works and Creativity Contest.

 

Educational Approach

DMA aims to cultivate outstanding talent capable of meeting national strategic needs in the digital creative industry. Graduates will possess a robust foundation in digital media art, an interdisciplinary knowledge structure, strong creative design and logical thinking skills, practical project experience, innovation abilities, teamwork and communication competencies, an international vision, a rigorous scientific attitude, and a keen awareness of contemporary developments. They will be well-prepared to lead future advancements in creative digital design and related fields, promoting digital technological engagement with the contexts of cultural narratives.

 

Courses

Through nearly three decades of development, the major has established a distinctive educational and research platform characterized by the integration of arts, humanities, and technology. The curriculum comprises three main course series: Interactive Media and Game Design, Internet and Information Communication Technologies, and Digital Animation and Film Production. Core courses include Design Aesthetics, Interaction Design, User Experience Measurement, Digital Editing and Composition, Animation, Motion Capture Technology, Digital Visual Effects, Web and Network Programming, Communication Theory, Digital Media Marketing and Planning, Intelligent Media Communication, Game Engine Fundamentals, Virtual Reality Systems, and Interactive Video Production.

 

Career

More than one-third of graduates each year pursue graduate studies domestically or abroad. The remaining graduates primarily find employment opportunities in leading internet companies, technology corporations, and media organizations located in first-tier and eastern Chinese cities. They engage extensively in interactive media and game development, internet and information communication, digital filmmaking and animation production, project planning and content creation, product design and development, user research and analysis, and relevant teaching and research fields, reflecting extensive social demand.
